Davide Garolini (born 1992) graduated in physics from the Università di Torino in 2013 and completed his master in the field of complex systems (a theoretical branch of physics) in 2015 with a thesis focused on the analysis of gene regulatory networks at the Université libre de Bruxelles. Since January 2016 he is working on computational neuroscience as a Ph.D. student in the Caflisch Lab.

Davide's research involves recognizing metastable states in the activity of neuronal networks, largely by using unsupervised data mining tools developed in the lab. To attain an understanding and to interpret this complex encoding of information, which is deeply non-linear and verges on the edge of chaos, is his main motivation. His research interests also extend to data mining tools able to deal with other (general) complex and large data sets. He spends his free time alternating between opera and movies/books and sometimes plays grand strategy video games (e.g., EU IV).
